Focus Reset versus meditation, timers, and app blockers
Updated 8 August 2026
If you’ve already tried the usual focus apps, this page is for you. Focus Reset isn’t trying to replace your whole toolkit. It covers a narrower job: the minute before work begins.
Meditation apps
Meditation apps are often built for practice, calm, sleep, or longer sessions. Many lean on open awareness: notice thoughts for ten or twenty minutes. That can be genuinely useful. It can also become another place to stay when you meant to work.
Focus Reset is a focused-attention warm-up, not an open-monitoring practice. One center. About a minute. Built to end. The ritual points you back into your work, not into a library of content. More on that idea: why a visual minute can help.
Focus timers
A timer measures a block. Focus Reset prepares the entrance to that block. After the minute, you can still choose no timer, or 15 / 30 / 60 minutes inside the app. The timer is optional. The product is the transition, not the countdown.
App blockers
Blockers remove temptation by force. They help when willpower is thin. They don’t, by themselves, gather a scattered mind into one place. Focus Reset doesn’t police your phone. It offers a short cue to arrive before you start.
Practical pairing: use Focus Reset with your blocker or timer.
